Pi Day is a celebration of one of our favorite mathematical constants, π (pi), or 3.14159265359. March 14 written in a numerical format (3/14) is the first three major numbers. That's right: Pi Day is about math, and thankfully, someone made it fun!
The earliest known large-scale celebration of Pi Day happened in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium, with a march around the building's circular spaces, then the revelers gathered to eat a bunch of pies!
